Review

The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is a compact portable Bluetooth speaker that punches well above its weight class. What sets it apart is the audio tuning—Bose's signature clarity comes through even at full volume, with surprisingly controlled bass for a speaker this size. It's not going to replace a proper home system, but for outdoor gatherings, travel, or desk use, it's genuinely impressive.

Build quality feels solid. The rubberised exterior handles drops without drama, and it's certified both waterproof (IPX7) and dustproof, which matters if you're taking it to beaches or festivals. I've dunked it and used it by a pool without any issues. The cylindrical design is ergonomic, and at around 600g, it's genuinely portable without feeling like a toy.

Battery performance lives up to the 12-hour claim on mixed-volume listening. I got roughly 11 hours before hitting empty, which is excellent. Charging via USB-C takes about 2.5 hours.

A few considerations: it's not a true 360-degree speaker—the sound leans forward, so placement matters a bit. For a garden party with 20 people, you might want something larger. Also, at this price point, there's Sonos Move (heavier, more expensive but better app ecosystem) or budget alternatives like JBL Charge, which offer similar battery life but less refined audio.

The real question: at £82.50, is it worth it? Absolutely. You're getting Bose's audio reputation, proper durability, and excellent battery life for less than many mid-range competitors. It's not a flagship product anymore, but that's precisely why the pricing makes sense. If portability and sound quality matter equally, this is a genuine win.
