Review

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 is a genuinely clever bit of kit for smaller living spaces or minimalist setups. It's not trying to be a full cinema system—it's a soundbar that focuses on doing the essentials brilliantly: crisp dialogue, decent bass despite its compact size, and surprisingly good spatial audio when you pair it with Sonos's height channels.

What impresses me most is the software. The Sonos app is intuitive, and the integration with your smart home is seamless. It supports Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and basically everything else you'd want. The built-in voice control via Alexa works well, though Google Home support would've been nice. Sound quality is punchy without being boomy, and Dolby Atmos makes a genuine difference on films.

Where it falls short: the bass is decent but not earth-shaking—if you're a bass junkie, you'll want to add a sub. At this size, that's expected, mind you. The price positioning sits comfortably above budget soundbars but below premium cinema setups, so you're paying for the Sonos ecosystem rather than raw audio specs. If you're all-in on Sonos products, that ecosystem value multiplies. If you're starting fresh, it's less critical.

At £299.17, I reckon it's a fair deal. It's not a flagship price-drop—we're talking 20% off, not 40%—but it's reasonable for a product that actually holds its value well. Best suited for flatmates, small flats, or anyone who values simplicity over showiness. If you want serious bass or plan to build a multi-room setup across multiple Sonos products, this is a clever foundation piece.
