Review

The Tapo C210 is TP-Link's solid attempt at an affordable pan/tilt WiFi camera, and at £16.65, it's worth serious consideration if you need indoor monitoring without breaking the bank. The 2K resolution (2560×1920) combined with the 3MP sensor delivers reasonably sharp footage in daylight, though don't expect the clarity you'd get from premium options costing three times the price. What impressed me most is the 360° horizontal and 114° vertical pan/tilt range—brilliant for covering large rooms or following movement across your space. The AI detection features (person, pet, sound) work decently enough to filter out false alerts, and there's no monthly subscription hanging over your head, which feels refreshing in 2024. Night vision kicks in automatically and uses infrared to maintain visibility in complete darkness, though it's naturally monochrome and grainy compared to colour night vision on pricier models. Setup is straightforward via the TP-Link Tapo app, and integration with Alexa and Google Home adds flexibility if you're invested in either ecosystem. The two-way audio is tinny but functional for quick conversations. My only real gripe is that the app can be sluggish during peak times, and the WiFi stability depends entirely on your router placement—move it too far and you'll get stuttering. The plastic build feels a bit basic, though it's not flimsy. For pet monitoring, baby watching, or casual home security on a budget, this does the job admirably. If you need 4K or professional-grade AI (like vehicle detection), you'll need to spend significantly more. At 29% off, though, this is genuinely good value—you're paying roughly £5 less than the standard asking price, which puts it competitive against other budget pan/tilt options. Worth it if your expectations match the price point.
